Company Microsoft trying to challenge the right Apple to register the App Store trademark and use it as the name for their online application store. The reason is too common words in the title.
App Store trademark applications were filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office back in 2008. Launched around the same time, the App Store online store offered various applications for iPhone. Today, the total number of applications for iPhone, iPad и iPod hundreds of thousands of units, moreover, a few days ago Apple also launched the Mac App Store for PC applications.
Competitors, clearly dissatisfied with this state of affairs, are taking measures available to them. Yes, representatives Microsoft filed a complaint with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Board of Dispute and Appeal that Apple violates the rights of competitors, trying to monopolize the right to use the most common and commonly used words, while receiving unreasonable advantages. After all, the App Store is nothing more than an “app store”, and absolutely any store of this type can be called that. Due to actions Apple other companies are forced to come up with names that the consumer will not confuse with the already existing name of the App Store, while they could simply call online stores - App Store "Company Name".
