From the official press release it became known that Nvidia acquired the British manufacturer of cellular solutions for portable devices - the company Icera. The deal amounted to 367 million US dollars.
It is also reported that the transaction will be completed within a month.
Modules created Icera are used to enable the device to connect to cellular networks from the second to fourth generations. And this means that the mobile platform will also be equipped with them. Tegra, which has been developed for several years Nvidia. Also Icera has five hundred patents for various technologies used in cellular communications.
All this will strengthen the position Tegra, increasing its chances in dealing with solutions from competitors, such as Broadcom or Qualcomm. It is believed that Icera's ideas will allow Nvidia to create smaller, and therefore more economical chips than other companies are able to create.
