The production of the legendary Volkswagen T1 minibus, better known as the "hippie trailer", has finally been discontinued.
For a long time after it was discontinued in Europe, it was being done in Brazil.
The T1 was first introduced in 1950 and almost immediately became a true legend. These vans were used by such popular bands of the 60s as, for example, the Grateful Dead. Hippies used them with pleasure, hence the nickname. At one time, Steve Jobs sold just such a minibus in order to get the start-up capital he needed to start Apple. The same one was used for traveling trade by a married couple who later founded the company Esprit. T1 was a real sign of the times and still causes many real nostalgia for those years.
But everything ends sooner or later. And now Volkswagen Brazil has announced the end of production of one of the most recognizable cars in history. The last few models will be released in blue and white with vinyl upholstery. Surely, their cost will eventually reach fantastic figures.
For a long time, the T1 was also produced at the plant in Mexico. But there production was discontinued in 1995.
